Regina Coffee
Sculptor of Southern Scenes

My name is Regina Roberson Coffee. Sculpting old South Georgia barns, farmhouse and outbuildings is my full-time job. I thank God that he gave me a job that I can put my heart into. The old buildings I sculpt out of clay remind me of the good old days at Grannny and Granddaddy’s farm. I feel like I’m going back there whenever I do one of my old homeplaces. I started working with clay about twelve years ago when I helped at my son’s school and asked the teacher could I buy some clay. I felt then that I was supposed to do something with clay. I’d never been an artistic child so I guess this was just a hidden talent and it was time for it to come out. After raising three boys, ( God knew I needed therapy.)

I am self-taught by trial and error, reading and asking people for information. Most of my sculptures are around nine inches high with a twelve inch base. I fire them in a kiln and I use acrylic stains to get the rustic effect I like on the old buildings. I started out using a saftey pin and now I can’t get the same effects with more professional tools, so I just go with what works. Each piece is an original, no molds. I also do reproductions from pictures.

I have my studio at my home in Coffee County. I go to the Spring and Fall shows at the Mossy Creek Festival in Perry, GA to sell my artwork. My husband Arthur Coffee is also a talented artist. I value his opinion and he is very helpful when it comes to going to the shows.
I also have Historical Sculptures on display at the Heritage Station Museum in Douglas, GA. We also have a Art Gallery with different local artist’s work displayed there.
I love doing this and I hope you can see it in my work. I love the emotion that hits peoples faces when they first see my work. You can tell it takes them back home to another time. God blessed me with this gift. I guess it’s just something that was meant to be. It’s not anything you can teach or be taught- it’s just something inside of you.

Hey, Regina–
I was speaking with Lynda Sat. afternoon, and she said you were working on another building and would send her pictures when you get it painted. Could you also send them to my e-mail so I can enjoy them as well? I just looked through the buildings on your blog and am once again so impressed!! —as is everyone who sees the replica of our house in the library.
Take care and thanks, Becky
